Gohyaku Rakan Monaka
monaka1.jpg
With the finest quality red bean paste in a fragrant wrapping,
a sturdy Rakan in the palm of your hand.

"As I see the moon reflected on the pond, I realize tonight is the middle (monaka) of autumn."

The name Monaka originates from the sweets that were served while this poem was recited at a moon viewing banquet of the Imperial Court. It is said that the Monaka no Tsuki sweets sold at a rice cracker shop called Yoshiwara in the middle of the Edo period are connected to the ones we enjoy today.

The appearance has changed from the full moon to a Rakan statue, but the exquisite balance of the fragrant Monaka skin with red bean paste made of carefully cooked Japanese adzuki bean creates a delicious flavor that continues to attract many.
